The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2005)
The Daniel Johnston is a sad story. The artist beaten by a mental illness, a victim of his own demons and destroyed by unrequited love. He achieved his goal of becoming famous after appearing on MTV program, but from that moment, an emotional shock that he would never put back (the woman he was always in love with another man undertook) detonated a manic depressive mental disorder already spent years brewing inside.
For years he combined his cassette recordings and drawings, with hospital visits, performances and meetings with bands like Sonic Youth and Jad Fair showed their admiration for him, but always under the shadow of his mental instability. Its extreme Christianity took obsessed with the figure of Satan and were multiple references and addresses your figure both in their actions and in the home recordings.
Jeff Feuerzeig builds a delicate but painful documentary work through a collection of 10 years of all the material kept Daniel in his basement studio. Films in which not only recorded his songs or his ideas, but also fights with her mother, who appears in his teenage years as an authoritarian figure almost shuns their artistic vein. Also the videos that rolled with his brother, his little Super 8 films and a lot of characters and illustrations containing constant elements of his inner world as Captain America, eyeballs, the figure of the devil, torsos of naked women or heads open. All images in the documentary wrapped his songs, sad allegations to the fragility of Daniel, who just displayed as actual testimony provided through their letters and diaries narrated on cassette.
The documentary also includes testimonials from people close to the musician from the beginning and in every moment of its decline. His parents, who star in the most emotional moments of the film in tears telling her psychotic episodes most problematic (leakage without notice or plane crash), but also speak proudly of their achievements and the fruits of their creativity as an artist. His manager, probably the most important of his career, one more victim of his mental instability, who left her side after many years of work just before clinching a record relevant. Her friend Kathy McCarthy, who speaks of him with a mixture of pity and tenderness. Friends, journalists and musicians who lived a musical heyday in Austin, a city that encunó the rise of a young artist become a unique folk tune pitched voice.
No wonder that all this emotional fragility to the attention of another tormented as Kurt Cobain, who looked at photos and performances the shirt with the cover of Hi, How Are You, forming a legion of onlookers who, over time, is become his most loyal followers.
The Devil and Daniel Johnston is a magnificent piece documentary that traces all over the story of a prolific artist, with ups and downs, harsh episodes (as in breaking to mourn at a concert to the amazement of the audience) and other endearing (when he meets Matt Groening in his dressing room), and it reaches its most shocking moment in the last section showing the relationship 'present' of Daniel with his parents, and older, who care for him and fear that day in which they are no longer the artist and stability wobble.

Lightz ': the (laughable) attempt to survive by Limp Bizkit
They returned to the scene in 2009. His original band reunited with Durst, Rivers, Otto, Lethal and eccentric Wes Borland. And released a new album "Gold Cobra" under a label like Interscope pro. Unfortunately for them, and for all those who followed in his time, the Limp Bizkit for the past three years has not been the same as dazzled with "Chocolate Starfish ..." and "Significant Other". Times have changed, trends have evolved and this lavish train arrollaba with songs like 'Nookie' and 'Break Stuff', has been on the edge of the derailment, with a very weak LP and direct a gruesome end aftertaste.
After being rejected by Interscope, and have all kinds of internal moves (mainly arising from drug addiction DJ Lethal), Durst has not been one to give a total turn of events. With a new song (titled 'Lightz' leaked on the net and in a somewhat strange) that neglects the nu metal to enter fully into the hip hop more soluble and easy as pie. Apparently this issue will come included in "The Disco Stampede Of Elephants", the Limp Bizkit album that will launch at some point in 2013 under Cash Money, the label founded by rapper Lil Wayne.
Personally I find this horrifying attempt to draw attention of Limp Bizkit. Even in "Gold Cobra" could identify traces of what was once LB, while in 'Lightz' not even the foundations we recall some of the most decaffeinated discography of Jacksonville. For if he had not been already, now is definitely the beginning of the end of a band that has failed hold up well over time.

Deap Vally: Clip of 'End Of The World' and first debut album details
Deap Vally are more alive than many believe. Gradually, and naturally, the Californian duo unique is striving to be a solid reality and not mere mirage that many say they are determined to. To grow your modest legend we can enjoy the video for his latest single - 'End Of The World', November 19 - and also some interesting details about the debut album from these two formidable women emerged from San Fernando Valley.
"He is very focused on our live" said Julie Edwards battery. "It is based on finding the essence of our performance and the feeling of this. Once successful, we will pull forward. Our goal is to always shoot for the spirit and soul, not perfection. ". Apparently for this occasion Deap Vally have decided to work side by side with renowned producer: Lars Stalfors. "He knows how to fit all the pieces for us in terms of making our songs sound raw. It is rare to work with a producer has to emerge as a relationship so intimate that, if it does not, the whole process can go take wind. "
Unfortunately we still have to wait a bit for the record comes out as the singer has confirmed that Troy Lindsey still need to shut it after the UK tour that will keep them busy well into November. No lack of desire to hear, right?. Hopefully Deap Vally demonstrate the LP that are much more than just hype (and pitch and the songs of the same style are more 'Gonna Make My Own Money' than 'End Of The World', the latter part hook missing something).

Band Of Horses - Mirage Rock
There have been many years that I have lived according to Band Of Horses. I still remember when they released "Everything All The Time" on Sub Pop Her fame skyrocketed like crazy after the release of a single - 'The Funeral' - which even today is remembered as the greatest work that the band has composed to date. After a couple of years and a few moves in their training, Seattle released a second LP titled "Cease To Begin" following the path of indie rock crystal that is appreciated on the debut album. With songs like 'No One's Gonna Love You' or 'Ode To LRC' managed to establish itself as a strong and enduring reality.
In 2009 the story changed radically with "Infinite Arms". Where had once glassy guitar riffs, now there was a new feeling rustic and dreamy, which agglutinated from winding up lines guitarfish slide guitars-style "country road" ('Dilly'). This drastic change in the core sound of BOH became positively surprise the audience and critics, leading to even Ben Bridwell & Cia llevasen incredible Grammy nomination. Who would have said in 2005 that that formation of dilapidated former Carissa's Weird member would fill the front pages of most of the music media in Europe and the United States. Half the world already knew and fame only seemed to be growing.
Then came 2012, the year in which the formation of Ben Bridwell resubmitted new album. Until then expectations had soared into the clouds and the audience was looking for something almost orgasmic. Fortunately the result of that waiting would be well pleased: "Mirage Rock" is as much or more than what we expected from these international indie rock monsters.
There is a technical level differentiating factor between "Mirage Rock" and previous work BOH: live recording. With producer Glyn Johns as captain, the horses have been led on this occasion by his stage energy. That roll halfway between dream and dreamer what we saw in "Infinite Arms" has given its prominence largely (not quantified 'Shut In Tourist) to a more mechanical, more rhythmic and more dinamatizadamente country. The key to this happening by Ryan Monroe, who is no longer so much the keyboard abetting Tyler Ramsey on guitar.
In "Mirage Rock" shines above all the voice of Ben Bridwell, who fits both sober records ('Dumpster World') and some extremely versatile and changeable ('How To Live'). For daring leader dares Band Of Horses up with new surprising new ways to express their voice, the surprising case of 'Heartbreak 101' in which we identify a stranger and brooding Bridwell.
As good BOH album, "Mirage Rock" has something for everyone. Flogging rockers like 'Feud' (included in the soundtrack of Fifa 13) and 'Knock Knock', melodic pieces and meandering pace that refer to the past as 'Long Vows' or 'Dumpster World' ... and above all, flexible pieces that transform speech sound as the seconds pass. That is the specialty of Seattle, and is well reflected in 'How To Live', a dazzling cut in which the pace of Monroe guitars and galloping Ramsey seconded to a majestic vocal outbursts Bridwell. Another great piece is 'Shut In Tourist', probably the most beloved of all the disc that features an exquisite melancholy aura that move us again, as in "Infinite Arms" to beautiful lush landscapes and night.
"Mirage Rock" is the best way to understand why the success of Band Of Horses has no trap or cardboard. Production? The just and necessary. Here what matters is that the engine gets nostalgic rock dive into the ecclesiastical life experience one of his live. And after almost 45 minutes of flashes of quality left the room with a smile on his face and thinking when the next Grammy Awards.

Nave of music / Red Bull Music Academy (Slaughterhouse, Madrid)
In March 2011, an earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan. In June of that year, the Red Bull Music Academy, a traveling musical school which since 1998 has been, among others, Berlin, New York, Sao Paulo and London, was to land in Tokyo. The disaster caused them to change plans quickly. "We needed a site and a project to build the space of five months," says Carmen, part of the team of the academy. "The Madrid City Council was ready, we made it very easy and gave one of the ships of the old slaughterhouse." In record time was enabled and was born "the ship of music": more than 4,000 square meters, a radio studio, recording another, a concert stage and nine rehearsal rooms surrounded by trees.
"It is proposed as a temporary structure (...) The order passed by creating, under emergency conditions, an infrastructure that, in addition to responding to needs and acoustic techniques, and enriqueciese acelerarara a series of intense artistic relations that would occur between musicians and in turn add a stage, "he says, architecturally this blog design. "This is as basic housing architecture, which is used to quickly rebuild devastated areas (Haiti, for example), as the first solution," he told his architect friend once.
It's been several months since the RBMA went through the capital (to give you an idea of how it was) for a month, a camp of artists from around the world lived the music hall and put the note in many electronic Madrid rooms. Then the place, and great part of the rehabilitated Slaughterhouse Madrid, which devotes each of its ships to an art, was closed.
"What is to be done with something as amazing when you finish school?" Asked (repeatedly) when we had the chance to visit last November. Shared management between the City and the organization of LILW, the ship hosts events like the Day of Music. Also recently opened a call for him to use studies: musicians and bands Madrid "to develop its business in the city", indicate the bases, can be presented to the contest to use the facilities and record there.
For the rest of the public, however, and as explained from the slaughterhouse, is closed exceptions. Next, for example, free days during the middle of September Nordic. And we're sure not to be the only ones who would love the ship was permanently open.

Kitten: the definitive approach to success of Chloe Chaidez
His father was a drummer in the punk scene of Los Angeles. Grew combining his love of fitness with listening to some of the best albums of their favorite artists: Moot The Hoope, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie. And formed a first group with just 12 years of age who opened for big as Midlake and Conor Oberst. Now that little rebel who surprised by their ability to under has grown - 17 are the years are there now - and finally decided to address the success with "Cut It Out EP" (August 28), the first EP which publishes with Kitten, his last band.
If I'm honest I acknowledge that this petite and had heard him make just under a month. But I refused to talk about it until you get a moment, like today, in which Chloe put an hog the drawing as single 'G', undoubtedly the most catchy and captivating piece of all that has the launch. And what better to ensure a big shot with a video post-apocalyptic epic of love and sex in desert terrain?
"'G' is a great song that needed a great video that secundase" - commented Chaidez Spinner. "The clip is like a mini movie. Something like if somehow mingle two classics as "Apocalypse Now" to "Rebels". About the cast used in the clip, Chloe is very clear, "People tend to ask where we draw the actors, but the reality is that they are all close friends, and couples in real life. That made the recording process was even more fun than it could be. We shot in extreme conditions in the Salton Sea desert experience could have been a mess, but ended up being a great thing. "
The reality is that 'G' is the only single released to date for this EP. 'Cut It Out', released by early summer, was the first. This piece showed the vein formation sensual looking set their music to a pop indie alternative rock with droplets falling into the tendency networks more "mainstream".
Kitten are one of those bands that will be loved and hated in equal measure. There will also be some time to let them to see if in the future, and with a full-length album under his arm, can be sustained, as they are doing so far, in the axis that separates the commercial alternative.

The less bitter goodbye
At the end of last week we had the opportunity, for an hour and via streaming, enjoy the new album from David Ramirez. In "Apologies" Ramirez enjoyed the most balanced, without being so crude as in "Strangetown EP", not as overproduced as "American Soul", the production of this album gets completely immersed in the world of vibrant and sensitive songwriter from Austin (Texas).
Preparing to go face to August 28 (official release date of the album) David has gone to the network in acoustic interpretation of 'Goodbye', probably the most sad and melancholy of all that sound on the disc. That air almost emo that we like David has returned to stay afloat as a cut very similar to parts of his eternal relation.

Tom Chaplin (Keane) decides to start his solo career explode
In recent months, members of Keane have been working up to promote "Strangeland". Video recorded with Bayonne, numerous concerts in Europe and the United States, countless promotional events ... The British do not have hardly a second to take a little break. Luckily Tom Chaplin, singer, has just confirmed via Daily Star that sometime in the future will use to begin work on a 100% personal career.
"When my themes will launch a solo project under" - Tom said to UK magazine. "In Keane know what we do and the roles we have, so it would make sense that the songs estrenase outside the band." Despite the primitive state of all this new project, knows where Chaplin throw new parts: "the lyrics are very direct. Maybe your setup is too explicit, and documenting what happened to me over the head in the last seven years of life. "
We have never had the opportunity to hear any solo material so Tom Chaplin will be very interesting to discover the qualities that can come to treasure the Battle without help from Tim, Richard and Jesse. But we doubt that Chaplin debuts nothing until after the second third of 2013. Among the tours with Keane missing - including dates that will bring in Madrid (October 19), Pamplona (October 23) and Barcelona (October 24) - and preparation / recording / editing the record that we have no another to take the issue calmly.

LAMC 2012: Pate Fua: Interview

Norah Jones and dark twisted games of 'Miriam'
In five studio albums Norah Jones has convinced us that it is a full-fledged artist. His melodies are evolving, his talent for composing is going well and his vocal ability is becoming more and more refined. With "Little Broken Hearts", fifth LP released in the same year, Jones wanted to get rid of any stylistic straitjacket order to show its most versatile. There seduction, fragility and fantasy in an album that has most amazed by exposing a subject like 'Miriam' part where Norah gives vent to his spirit dark and twisted.
In "Miriam Norah plays slowly torturing the person you cheated on your partner. So acid that play with the death of another person is also reflected in the video the same issue that has led Phil Andelman (Ryan Adams - Lucky Now, Band Of Horses - Dilly). The best thing about this? The final moment, where just video and cohesive theme.
Norah Jones recall that soon will come to Spain to present his new album live. Well apuntaros dates: September 20 in Barcelona (L 'Auditorium) and 23 of that month in Madrid (Palacio Municipal de Congresos). Tickets can be purchased through LiveNation.

Humbug
Before watching the documentary The United States of Hoodoo, it probably has as little idea of the audience in the movie Voodoo religion. Afterwards, however, did not.
The starting point seems really promising. The German director Oliver Hardt follows the black American author Darius James on his journey through the U.S., where he will explore the origins of the Voodoo religion and its roots in American society. He meets an artist, teacher and friends of tries and, from them we learn more about this foreign culture.
Unfortunately, it remains at the trial. James proves to be a strange questioner. He often seems strangely uninterested or even scattered, hooked quite interesting in the present moment not to be, but his most boring talking endlessly about trivial talk long. It lacks a coherent strategy. Many of the respondents have done only very remotely connected with the actual topic. The film fails because something extraordinary to show or even unknown, James talks about the weather instead. When he then towards the end of ten minutes a session with his friends discussed above, where a just-cooked food comes from, you will lose viewers as completely out of patience. Why should an interest in this "gumbo" court? What is the significance of its origin at all? All that remains, like so many mysteries. Certainly, even a broad approach to topic in a documentary to be useful: Just The United States of Hoodoo would take a more committed or just more interesting main character.
So the movie is good, unfortunately that is not the character study yet to discover an unknown religion and culture. A small number of people have taken a short time to tell quite interesting, some of the intermediate sections of music flashed a certain beauty, but remains a perception out completely. Afterwards you have not learned much new, and knows so much about voodoo as before. Darius James says at the end of himself, he "would have only scratched the surface." Because he's right.

SHAMAN'S PROJECT - "Sevdah"-a Musikrichtug from the Balkans is sung poetry. The six boys bring the unknown here, according to the peoples of Southeastern Europe but extremely more present style, Germany.

Pale Spectres - Perfect for Sarah Records
Commercial was the small British label Sarah Records at that time probably not such a big success - the more surprising how many good bands they spawned ... and that the sound of the Field Mice, etc. still enjoys great popularity with new bands. Such as in the French-English Pale Spectres Act. Yes, they have been named to The Wake. And they sound very Sarah-esque, or as a mixture of Language of Flowers and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Her first song "Helen of Troy" is certainly a very flattering ear issue - and also free!

The xx - coexist
"It is a long time ago, since it was the last time something new to hear from us. This song is called 'Angels.' He's the first track from our new album 'Coexist'. We played the song live recently and already look forward to now be able to share with you this version, in which we have worked so long. We hope you like it! xx - The xx
Thus the statement of the ribbon. I fear that the song is a mega-hype experience .. Nevertheless, enthusiasm...

Mumford & Sons confirm "Babel"
Mumford & Sons confirmed earlier this week that his new album, which is scheduled for next September 24 will be called Babel. The second disc of Londoners, who wiped out his debut album Sigh No More in 2009, returning with 12 new songs, some of whom we have heard-and a new tour that will hopefully bring them to Spain. Recall that the band played last week in Bilbao BKK Live festival.
On the new album, in various statements published in NME, Mumfornd & Sons highlight the collaborative work of the four band members in the preparation of this anticipated release "started writing new songs long before hitting the studio to record. We had a hard time writing while on tour so we just writing and rehearsing in sound checks before concerts. But we also love to write. As a group, we have never been so united or so worked in a joint. We feel this new album is a natural progression that we are proud. "
